Houston Charms Walk for a Healthy Heart!
On Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Herman Park Walking Trails, the Houston Charms walked for a Healthy Heart! This year’s 7th annual National Unity Walk was blessed with sunshine and 70 degree weather! Houston Charm sisters, Gems, Charmers and walkers all came out to take steps to encourage women in a healthier lifestyle while raising awareness for the Women's Heart Foundation in the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke.
This year alone, nearly 370,000 American women will succumb to heart disease and stroke, and 8.6 million women worldwide. Another 8 million U.S. women are currently living with the disease after having experienced a heart attack or stroke. It affects one in two women and is the leading cause of death in women.
“This is our seventh year hosting this Unity Walk and we are excited to have Houston Chapter Unity Walk T-Shirts to give out...every year we’ve continued to increase participation,” said Anne King, Walk Chair for Houston Charms. “With the help of the Houston office of AARP and Houston businesses for their support we anticipate doubling event anticipate doubling event attendance in 2016.”
Walkers enjoyed healthy snacks that included granola bars, bananas and crispy delicious apples when they returned to Herman Park Golf Club. We gave-a-way Houston Charms' cookbooks to the first guest to the Unity Walk, the youngest guest, and the first to finish the walk! The day was successful due to the efforts of all the many volunteers, the Houston Charms and their famiy and friends that kept everything moving smoothly for walkers to enjoy the day.
At the end of the walk, the sisters from the Houston Charms led by president Patti Rollins, gathered in solidarity along with other Charm Chapters around the country to conduct a balloon release.
