Moving Towards Recovery | Tulsa Chapter
The Tulsa Charms are recovering from the loss of Charm Vivian Goodwin, Charm Janis Williams and her son, Gem Albert Williams.
Charm Janis Williams loved children. She was widely known as an artist, jewelry de- signer and teacher. She was also well known for her in- volvement in many civic and social or- ganizations, including Tulsa's Links. She was a co- founder and president of the Tulsa Chapter of Charms, Incorporated, the Set Club as well as a number of other organizations that focused on helping children reach their highest potential.
Today, throughout Tulsa and the nation, there are many successful people who owe their education and training to Janis and the pro- grams provided by the organiza- tions she served.
In partnership with her Charmer Lloyd, Janis owned a talent booking agency, operating in Tulsa and throughout the Midwest on what history now calls "The Chitlin Circuit." They featured and became ac- quaintances with performers who went on to become legendary, including Lionel Richie, Ray
Charles, Della Reese, B.B. King, Etta James, The Temptations, Grover Washington, Jr., and Ike & Tina Turner.
Charm Janis crossed into Eternity on Friday, April 12, 2013 after and ex- tended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson, Spencer Williams, and her son, Al- bert Williams.
