On Saturday, May 21, 2016, the Houston Charms, Inc. members, family, and friends recently participated in the Charms Inc National Unity Walk, an awareness and fundraising event supporting Women's Heart Association. “This is a cause about which we are quite passionate, as many of our member have battle heart conditions. It was an honor to support them, and the walk itself was incredibly exciting.
We met bright and early at the Hermann Park Golf Course clubhouse, wearing our neon Houston Charms tops – and by the end of the day we raised a little money!” said Ann King, Houston Unity Walk Chair. We'd like to 'thank' our speaker Dr. Lisa Otey, who was full of informative and potentially life-saving information. She received her medical degree from Meharry Medical College and has been in practice for more than 20 years. We would like to also thank the members of the Houston Texans who walked with us to help bring awareness to Women Heart Disease.
In the United States, 1 in 4 women dies from heart disease. The fact is: Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!
The most important thing to do if you think you are having heart attack symptoms is to call 911 and tell them you are experiencing heart attack symptoms.
They will send an ambulance to transport you to a hospital emergency room as quickly as possible so a doctor can examine and treat you.
While waiting, crush or chew a full-strength aspirin (swallow with a glass of water) to prevent further blood clotting.
